A Divine Interruption

1st Kings 17 5-9

5″ So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.

Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. Then the word of the Lord came to him: “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food”

Have you been at a season in your life where you were just ENJOYING the blessings and the favour of God and then suddenly…it got INTERRUPTED?

Think about it you finally got that great paying job , student grant ,or the opportunity to FINALLY book a vacation because God knows you been working like a slave all year.

Then all ALL OF A SUDDEN the company lays you off your job , the airline goes out of business before you could take the vacation and the college decides there not giving any more hand outs to students so now that student grant isnt available to you.

Seems a bit dramatic doesn’t it? For all of this to occur at once to someone.

I mean….why would God allow this to happen, when he knew that it was something you really needed ?

Im sure Elijah had these same questions when he came back from the scorching sun to see the very thing that God provided him with was gone.

Not a drop of water was in sight! Elijah probably said to God “Why did you send me the ravens or give me this well to drink from if you were going to deprive me of it later“?

Today I know you’ve asked God the same question. Im not sure what your “brook” may have been but what I am certain of is that you had A DIVINE INTERRUPTION from God himself. No it was not the Devil….. it was GOD!

God has to interrupt our daily program in order to get our attention and better than that to move us from one place to another

We have no way of knowing how long God tested His prophet by the barren brook. For a time, at least, Elijah had to wait in faith.

It probably seemed that all the promises were failing. God had abandoned him to an agonizing death in the parched wilderness. But as he lingered and listened, God spoke these words, “Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee” (1 Kings 17:9).

WOW so God closed one door so that He could open another one? Elijah had lingered there long enough he probably got too comfortable (like most of us) God had another experience waiting for him in Zarephath. God’s brooks always dry up because there only meant to transition us from one season to another and in that we can go from Glory to Glory.

Were not called to stay in the same place all the time or to rest in mediocrity the remainder of our days. Zarephath was better than the Brook Cherith but I believe God closed up Cherith before he revealed Zarephath to Elijah

While your waiting on your Zarephath( your miracle) are you waiting in faith or wavering with doubt? Your Faith has to be tested in order for you to be perfected.

Excellence requires testing and what better teacher do we have than life itself. God uses Experience to shape us!
