The Power to Change
22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness
Why is it so hard to put off the old self and get rid of old habits?
I asked myself this question today after Ive re called some actions/decisions Ive made in life that I had promised myself I wouldnt make again.
We tend to continue on with the old mind set even after we’ve received word of new revelation from God
Do we faulter because we are immune to Gods words or is it simply the case of us neglecting to do as instructed in Roman 12;2 which to perform daily regeneration of the mind?
In this we will remain on the path God has ordained us to be on in the first place..
Romans 12 :2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
You see an old mindset with old habits is “like a river flowing through a canyon, the longer a habit continues, the more deeply it becomes ingrained, and the harder it is to change- unknown
This pertains to all habits, good or bad
Habits are not easy to change just ask the wisest man in the bible, King Solomon
God imparted his wisdom into Solomon daily and gave him insight and revelation, but Solomon had a bad habit and that was the lust of wordly posessions and women
To satisfy his mind Solomon embraced worldly pleasures instead of the pursuit of God. He collected all sorts of treasures and surrounded himself with luxury at one point he even stated that all was vanity
14I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after wind
So if all was then and now is vanity why pursue it? Why even bother to chase after it if we know that it yields no sustainable satisfaction?
Simple, it brings us back to the lasting factor, we are creatures of habit and in these bad habit the old self is the umpire.(The one in control of something)
The force behind bad/old habits is the old self it keeps us in a vicious cycle We neglect to realize that sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to stop participating in the problem.
When we choose to not only renew our mind but to BELEIVE that God word is Powerful enough to root up every cycle in our lives we would see tangible results.
God appeared to Solomon in a dream and promised him anything he asked.
1 Kings 3:5That night the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!”
Solomon chose understanding and discernment. God was so pleased with the request that he granted it, along with great riches and power.Solomon’s downfall began when he married the daughter of the Egyptian Pharaoh to seal a political alliance.
Among Solomon’s 700 wives and 300 concubines were many foreigners, which angered God.
These women eventually lured King Solomon away from God into worship of false gods.
Like Solomon we tend to continue on with the same old mind set even after we’ve received Gods power and assignment but to be excellent in anything requires change and dicipline!
We must remove old habits and develop new ones in order to culminate great results.
Perhaps its time for a change of environment
You cannot change a bad habit while continuing to run with the “crowd” that caused the habit . Solomons i dolater wives were a bad influence to his spirit man.
The same can be said about us. Who are we in contact with thats steering us of of the path God wants us on?I dont know about you but I had to give up some people and some places this year
I had to surround my self with excellent people that are headed towards my end goal
Today ask God to remove negative influences in your life and replace it with god ones.
For every bad habit you “put off,” find some useful activity to “put on” in its place- unknown
Remember changes are not easy but they are necessary to succeed in God’s work
32:17 ‘Oh, Lord God, you did indeed make heaven and earth by your mighty power and great strength. Nothing is too hard for you! (That includes us. )
We may have bad habits but God has the power to change them if he didnt he wouldnt be God.
