No you can not blame it on the alcohol…
Its is very shocking to hear that many Christians and Non Christians use Jesus turning water into wine miracle (John 2:1-25) as a way to justify their compulsive/social drinking behaviors!
The word Sober means to abstain (stay away)from something, in this case for men is to abstain from alcohol (strong drinks) .
Proverbs 31:4-5 4 It is not for kings, Lemuel— it is not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave strong drinks5 lest they drink and forget what has been decreed
This verse basically states that you are not to indulged in strong drinks as princes and may I add princess/peculiar people of God! Least you forget what’s has been established ordered for your life.
Many have even gone as far as to say Jesus himself drank so why shouldn’t they but there’s a difference between drinking occasionally and drinking compulsively/frequently.
The Bible does not say that drinking is a sin. It says that getting drunk is, it’s the sin of gluttony (over indulgence)
Romans 13:13 –Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
Social compulsive drinking is where the problem in society lies today. Drinking has now become an event that any can indulge in once over the age.
Although the law of the land enforces rules and regulations that one should follow, this is not always the case.
Im sure many will agree that getting drunk doesn’t sound like a wise idea .How can you uphold the Christian standards, morals and goals when drunk?
How are you “keeping watch” as stated in Luke 21:26-27 for the coming of Christ if you are always in an intoxicated state? It doesn’t make sense!
In Luke it warns us to be cautious and to avoid being drunk or over indulging in anything that would make us oblivious to the day of Jesus return!
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
Isaiah 5:11 says: “Woe to those who are getting up early in the morning that they may seek just intoxicating liquor, who are lingering till late in the evening darkness so that wine itself inflames them!”
Oh what a sad day that will be to be drunk and unaware that our redemption has indeed drawn nigh! The bible says in Luke we are to lift up our heads for our redemption cometh we shall see the Son of Man bursting through the cloud in all of his Glory!
Be on guard because destruction is all around us and the very least we should do is remain SOBER OF MIND!
1 Peter 4:7
But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer
Watch therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
