Infatuation vs Love

Infatuation Vs Love

Is this love or am I infatuated?

This question should be asked amongst ourselves before we decide to go dipsy diving into a relationship that can result in an aimless marriage/courtship.
Expounding on the meaning of the words presented–I.N.F.A.T.U.A.T.I.O.N.
This is described as a short lived passion or admiration for someone or something.

Elizabeth Gilbert stated it best in her quote; “Infatuation is more like Loves shady second cousin who’s always borrowing money and can’t hold a proper job down”Boy was she right!
Let’s talk about infatuation for a moment, in today’s world infatuation is confused with love because of the similar symptoms that go hand in hand such as are; obsession, passion, enchantment, fascination, anxiety and even in some circumstances yes…L.U.S.T
Sometimes we need to understand that everything that glitters isnt always gold and WHATS AVAILIBLE TO YOU IS NOT ALWAYS FOR THE TAKING–They may not be your portion. God has a perfect will for our lives and it will take discernment in order to decipher whom and who is apart of his will

The definition goes on to explain infatuation as something that is short lived which mean this is for a fleeting moment-it eventually will have an expiration date!

Anything that comes forceful and with haste will eventually come to an end.
There’s no longevity attached to the thing/person, no plans no foundation, there’s nothing there for you to build on so why entertain something/someone that’s not going to be substantial in the long run?
Haste makes waste and lust and infatuation are both haste best friend.

I can sit here and write all day about the dangers of infatuation but what does the bible have to say about the residue of infatuation such as, anxiety, obsession,  and lust?

Philippians 4:5–7 “The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds”

God is aware that as humans we get ahead of ourselves were impatient beings but he also ask us to let our request which is whatever we desire to be known to him.
He knows what’s good for us and what’s not. He wants to give us peace and surety that would guard our mind and in the end this would allow us to make healthier and wiser choices

James 4,2-3– “Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.  3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume [it] upon your lusts.

God also knows us and our hearts. Things we ask/go after will be denied from us because God knows it will only be for self gratification and not for kingdom purpose.
We may ask for that particular car, wife or house because of our greed and consumptuous nature, not because of the quality the person/thing has or its benefits that can assist us in our future.

L.O.V.E – A very complex word best described as an intense feeling of deep affection.
Words that go hand in hand with love would be intimacy, attachment, devotion, adoration, desire, yearning and the list goes on and on

There are 3 types of love stated in the bible .When combined this is the PERFECT LOVE God intends for us to have in a MATE .
Eros Love
Eros is a Greek term which actually means desire and longing this kind of love is based on the physical traits.
God created physical attraction between a man & a woman, but He never intended for it to be selfish. He created desire and longing which makes up sexual love which is crucial in any marriage. This love was meant to be preserved between a couple and essential for marriage
Gen 2:24–Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh

Agape Love
This is a special term which represents the divine-love of the Lord towards his Son Jesus Christ, the human beings and all believers. This is the best of the three types of love in the bible, in fact Jesus himself showed this type of divine love for us
John 3:16-For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that who so ever believed in him will not perish but have every lasting life

Philos Love
This is a unique kind of love like the one you have for a companion or pal. It refers to loving one another just like your brother or sister. This love is for a pal who is really close and dear to us and it is characterized by various different shared experiences between two people
John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

There were many times in life where I confused infatuation for love because of feeling and emotions on my part .I didn’t weigh the pros and cons of the persons displayed character before entering the relationship.

I didn’t consider that a friendship should be established before a relationship and in the end would save us the regret. The truth is Love is NOT Infatuation although the word love is tossed around carelessly love is an action word which hold weight and meaning.
God the greatest love connector of all times said in his word that Love is Charity.

1 Corinthians 13:4 – 13:7
4Charity suffereth long, [and] is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

In closing troughout your interactions in life you will recognize what true love truly is and what it is not. With the help of the holy spirit, if we ask he will equip us with the tools such as discernment and wisdom in his word and with this we can decipher the real from the fake.

Love will endure all things, love will never give up on you and with love you never have to compromise your intergrity.

Oh and one more thing–LOVE HAS NO EXPIRATION DATE!!!!
