Taming the Tongue

I shouldn’t have said that…right?

Lord that little unruly member of my body has gotten me in trouble again. Taming my tongue has become a very challenging  act.

Your word says that no man can tame the tongue and it is an uncontrollable evil full of deadly poison. Sometimes we use it to praise you and sometimes we use it to hurt others who are made in your image.

Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.

When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.(James 3:1-7)

Forgive us lord for not controlling our tongue or not allowing you to control it, teach us how to stop pray and think before we speak. Words are a powerful thing, they give us the power to heal and the power to hurt.

The power to give hope and the power to discourage. The power to build up and the power to tear down

Help us to realize that even though we are not able to tame our tongues the things that are impossible with man are possible with you because our words are verbalization of our thoughts7For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.-Prov 23:7

Today we submit our thoughts to you. Help us to dwell on whatever things are true, honest, just , pure, lovely and of good report.  In Jesus name Amen

  2. Life and Death is in the hand of the tongue. God created everything and commands everything with the words He speaks. and if we are to be like Him…always watch what we say 🙂
